EMET*

Posted in art, life, love, relationships, yoga by the consummate on September 28, 2009

It feels so good to be able to speak the truth without risk of violence.

*Emet is the spiritual state associated with the sefirah of yesod.

In the words of our sages, “the seal of God is truth.” The final letters of the three words that conclude the account of Creation–bara Elokim la’asot (“God created to do” [Genesis 2:3])–spell emet. God created reality “to do,” which as interpreted by the sages means that it is incumbent upon us, God’s creatures, to complete the “doing” (i.e. “rectification”) of His Creation.

Here, emet, whose three letters are referred to as the beginning, middle and end of the alef-beit, means the actual “verification” (“end” or “seal”) and “realization” of God’s primordial will (the “beginning”) in Creation. (Emet in its intellectual sense, represents God’s plan for reality which follows His will and precedes His seal, and thus corresponds to the “middle” stage of emet).

As a spiritual emotion of the soul, emet is thus understood to be the experience of the soul’s almost impulsive “drive,” at the end of a creative pursuit, to “make it come true.” Emet thus entails the experience of self fulfillment in all of one’s life endeavors.

The tzadik (“foundation of the universe,” referred to as the “tzadik emet“) is the one granted the power to “decree” that God realize and fulfill in actuality all of His good promises to Israel. It is the inner potential of each and every Jew to become such a tzadik emet.

Thus emet is the power to realize one’s own deepest potential, which is in fact the power of the Jewish soul to bring about the ultimate realization of God’s potential.

It’s Ok – Dead Moon

I feel this way about my Judaism right now… like, it’s ok that you’re finding another path, it’s ok that you don’t feel entirely connected anymore, etc. I am finally reconciling it.

The Way the Blue Could Pull Me In…

Last night, on my way home from an incredible conciousness raising evening, I listened to The Cure’s Paris album. Originally from their 1992 release WISH, A Letter To Elise is one of my favorite tracks from the band. Feeling so dreamy…

Call Me.

Jesus Diamante

Posted in art, fashion, health, life, love, photography, WTF by the consummate on September 9, 2009

well, well, well…

i stumbled upon the Jesus Diamante site recently. WOW. i’m taken aback. pre-Sophia Coppola exposing the world to contemporary Japanese culture or as i like to call it, japanophilism, i was slightly obsessed with the styleeeee. my friend esther grew up in tokyo and would take me to little tokyo in downtown LA back in the 90’s. i’d buy all the mini mags i could find as well as hella product. WHY on earth does japanese shampoo smell better than any other shampoo on earth? it must be the pretty sparkles on the packaging. no one can beat the packaging. ANYWAY. the mags were amazing. plus they come with some sort of prize often (as they do in Europe only BETTER because it’s Japanese and not European).  i was always into the hair color Japanese women chose – that not quite blonde with a hint of red in it. i wanted to get my hair did in that color. but alas, it just wouldn’t look right on me. not only was it the hair that lured me in, it was the art direction, the over all style of the content and design. it was like a full-sensory explosion on the pages of a print magazine. AMAZING. my love for the slightly obnoxious had just reached its pinnacle.

nevertheless, it is in that same guise that i chose to highlight JESUS DIAMANTE. i came across the site because i jacked borrowed one of the images for my twitter profile pic so i decided to check out the entire site. and OH DEAR JESUS, or should I say OH DEAR JESUS DIAMANTE. this is obscene. so much lace and faux floral one could puke. they even give the madonna inn a run for its money. and that is a HUGE statement for me to make. i’d like to see them expand from an online retail shop to a full on amusement park. can you imagine what the restrooms would look like!?

here are a few images i grabbed from the site. i’ll have to contact esther to find out exactly what’s going on here. but from the pics you can get a sense of it.

Suffice to say this is something that i am seriously pondering writing a dissertation on. that is, if i go for a PhD. academics aside, no one can front on JESUS. DIAMANTE that is.

Brothers & Sisters

Posted in animals, family, health, life, relationships by the consummate on September 7, 2009

This is an older photo published a gazillion times since wildfire erupted in Australia last season. Yet still it is an incredible testament to those beautiful human beings who help out our sisters and brothers of all shapes, sizes, creed, species, etc. I love this image. It warms my heart and renews my faith in humanity and a beautiful world to come.
